SMALL SPACES

Plan backup power for an apartment.

Start with a few useful outlets: light, a charged phone, your router and a fan. A portable battery plan works best when you decide which everyday loads matter most.

Choose a small essential circuit of your own

List the devices you would plug directly into the station. This example excludes the fridge so you can see a lighter starting plan; add it if refrigeration is one of your priorities. Include any modem or fiber terminal needed alongside your router.

Separate comfort from electric heating

A fan and an electric space heater have very different energy demands. The planner’s 40W fan example uses 320Wh over eight hours before losses; its 1500W heater example uses 12000Wh. A large output rating alone does not make a small battery a long-duration heating solution.

Plan where the equipment will sit

Follow the manufacturer’s ventilation, temperature and charging instructions. Keep access to exits clear and use compatible equipment. This is a plug-in appliance plan, not a design for connecting a station to building wiring.

Try the same load on several batteries

Open the example and adjust the hours, then compare models. If you already have a model in mind, use the battery explorer to see how adding a fridge or laptop changes the estimate.
