AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND

How much battery do you need for a camping trip?

A cooler runs differently from a phone charger. Build your trip around each device’s actual time in use, then decide how much battery to carry.

Translate your schedule into a percentage

Four hours of lighting during a 24-hour window is about 17% usage, not 100%. Two hours of phone charging is about 8%. The starter keeps the shared camping preset visible so you can change each assumption rather than hide it inside a recommendation.

Treat cooler demand as a variable

Ambient temperature, the set temperature, insulation and how often the lid opens affect compressor runtime. The 40% sample is not a measured figure for your cooler. Check consumption over a representative day and confirm the output and startup requirements.

Do one calculation without the sun

The planner includes no solar recharge. That gives you a baseline for how long stored energy lasts. Panel wattage is an input ceiling under suitable conditions, not a promise of daily harvest; weather, shade, orientation and the station’s input limits all matter.

Account for the ports you will actually use

The default 80% usable-capacity and 10W idle allowances are general planning assumptions. A cooler on DC and phone on USB can behave differently from an AC load. Confirm connector compatibility and replace allowances with measured values when available.
